Module 2

Module 2 of the Safer Drivers Course involves practicing safe driving behaviours and low risk driving strategies while receiving coaching and feedback.

Outcomes:

At the conclusion of the workshop, learners will:

  • Understand why learners are at the highest risk of crashing when they first transition from supervised to independent driving
  • Understand how to reduce the risk of crashing by adopting safe driving behaviours, minimising risk-taking and making safe on-road decisions
  • Understand the relationship between typical poor driving behaviours and increased crash risk – for example, following behaviour, gap selection, hazard perception and speed management
  • Reinforce and practice the low-risk driving behaviours explored in Module 1
Be more relaxed and confident as a low-risk driver
  • Build resilience to distractions and peer pressure by adopting and practicing safe driving behaviours and low-risk strategies

Agenda:

  • Stationary low-risk driving: Find out about the basic concepts of low-risk driving
  • Your personal compass: Discover that focus and concentration begins when drivers get into the car
  • Drive 1 – Low risk driving: Practice low risk driving with coaching and feedback
  • Drive 2 – Recognise and respond to hazards: Recognise hazards through coaching and feedback
  • Drive 3 – Putting it all together: Consolidate new strategies and behaviours with coaching and feedback
  • Drive 4 – Commentary drive: Observe the coach driving and demonstrating ‘commentary driving’
